NASHVILLE, TN: Take flight and
support the youth of your community at The
9th Annual Birdhouse Thing on Thursday, March 11, 2010. Each
year, event organizers provide wooden birdhouses to local Nashville
artists, architects, celebrities and public figures who then fashion a
truly unique piece of work by adding their own artful design. These
birdhouses are then made available for purchase through live and silent
auctions at the event.
For the past eight years, this spectacular event benefiting Nashville’s
very own W.O. Smith Music School helped raise the money that resulted
in the fall 2008 opening of its new school. This prominent building
sits at the corner of 8th and Edgehill Avenues and features 22,000
square feet of usable space including a 200 seat performance hall, a
music library, an instrument library, five music labs, fourteen
teaching studios and a recording studio.
This year national recording artists Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney,
Wynonna, Brad Paisley and many others were inspired to tap in to
another side of their creativity for the cause. The birdhouses
autographed by recording artists will be available for purchase through
an online auction in March at www.opryauction.com. Several of the
houses that will be available for silent and live auction at the event
have been given creative touches by visual artists including Edie
Maney, Bob McGill, Diana Wiles, Amy Potter and Dan Brauner
Jr. Additionally, there will also be fabulous pieces
of art for auction by Mandy Lawson, Barbara Coon, Sheila B, Langford
Barksdale and Cindy Wunsch.
Tickets for the event are on sale now and can be purchased online at
www.birdhousething.com, by calling the W.O. Smith Music School at
615-255-8355 or by emailing info@wosmith.org.
Guests who purchase tickets may also enjoy delicious hors d'oeuvres
provided by a wide variety of Nashville’s top caterers, specialty food
shops, and popular dining eateries as well as fine wine, a martini bar,
a selection of local rums, and a frozen margarita bar.
Founded in 1984, W.O. Smith Music School is a non-profit educational
institution created for the purpose of making quality music instruction
available to talented, interested, deserving children from low-income
families at the nominal fee of 50 cents per lesson. The School offers
instruction in all band and orchestra instruments, piano, guitar, and
voice taught by a volunteer music faculty representing many facets of
the Nashville music community. The school also seeks to encourage
student participation in the cultural life of the community through
concert attendance and performance.
